Journey through fascinating country towns, uncover stories of pioneering history, marvel at rare black opals, and immerse yourself in the landscapes, wildlife, and culture that make this region so unique. From the historic Jondaryan Woolshed and Mitchell Artesian Spa to stargazing at Charleville’s world-class Cosmos Centre, this tour is the perfect blend of discovery, relaxation, and authentic outback adventure.

Our journey begins in Brisbane as we head west through Ipswich, Gatton, and Toowoomba, enjoying scenic views of the Darling Downs. Our first stop is at the Jondaryan Woolshed, built in 1859 and one of the oldest and most significant shearing sheds in Queensland. Over morning tea, step back in time and learn about 160 years of pastoral history, including the wool industry’s vital role in shaping the outback. We continue to Chinchilla, famous for its melons and rich farming history, where you can purchase lunch (own expense). In the afternoon, we arrive in Roma, a vibrant regional hub known for its cattle industry and iconic outback charm. This evening, we take our seats for the Roma Big Rig Sunset Experience. As the sun dips below the horizon, enjoy a glass of Outback port while a local “Roma Rigger” guide shares fascinating tales of sabotage, drama, and discovery from the early days of oil and gas exploration. A captivating short film under the stars sets the perfect tone for our first night. Accommodation: Best Western Bungil Creek Hotel, Roma

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the tour price?
Our tour prices typically include accommodation, transportation, guided tours, and meals as specified in the itinerary. Flights, travel insurance, and personal expenses are usually not included unless specifically mentioned. Each tour listing provides a detailed breakdown of inclusions and exclusions.
How far in advance should I book my tour?
We recommend booking at least 3-6 months in advance for popular tours, especially during peak season (April to September). Some exclusive rail journeys like The Ghan and Indian Pacific can book out 6-12 months ahead. Early booking also gives you the best selection of cabin types and departure dates.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation policies vary depending on the tour type and operator. Generally, cancellations made 60+ days before departure receive a full refund minus a small admin fee. Cancellations 30-60 days forfeit 50% of the tour cost, and within 30 days forfeit the full amount. We strongly recommend travel insurance to protect your investment.
Are your tours suitable for people with mobility issues?
Many of our coach and rail tours are suitable for people with limited mobility, though some walking is usually required at destinations. Please discuss your specific needs with our team when booking. We can advise which tours are most suitable and arrange any necessary assistance. Unfortunately, some remote outback tours may not be suitable.
What should I pack for an outback tour?
Essential items include comfortable walking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), light layers for varying temperatures, a water bottle, camera, and any personal medications. We provide a detailed packing list with your booking confirmation specific to your tour and season of travel.
Do you offer travel insurance?
Yes, we are accredited agents for Toursafe and Covermore Travel Insurance. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, trip cancellation, and lost luggage. We can provide quotes and arrange coverage at the time of booking your tour.
Can you arrange flights to connect with tours?
Absolutely! We can arrange all domestic and international flights to seamlessly connect with your tour departure and return. Our team will ensure appropriate connection times and can also arrange pre or post-tour accommodation if needed.
Are meals catered for special dietary requirements?
Yes, most tour operators can accommodate special dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergies. Please advise us of any dietary needs at the time of booking so we can ensure appropriate arrangements are made with the tour operator.
