Sydney – The Hawkesbury

Your Golden West adventure starts at Sydney’s Central Station. Once onboard you can choose to relax in the lounge carriage, or settle into your cabin while we travel to the spectacular Hawkesbury River. Here you step off for your first off-train experience, joining the famous ‘Riverboat Postman’ for a lunch cruise. Enjoy the magnificent scenery of the lower Hawkesbury River as we deliver the mail and other essentials to the river-access-only settlements upriver from Brooklyn. Commences: Central Station, Sydney 9:30am Monday. When you rejoin our train, you’ll enjoy views from the train which we think are some of the best in Australia. You’ll see the whole length of the train as we round curves and the line traces the waters edge at Mullet Creek. The waterside theme is continued after we go through Woy Woy Tunnel and alongside Brisbane Water. We skirt around Newcastle and onto Maitland in the Hunter Valley. The train will be stabled for the night at Paterson.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the tour price?
Our tour prices typically include accommodation, transportation, guided tours, and meals as specified in the itinerary. Flights, travel insurance, and personal expenses are usually not included unless specifically mentioned. Each tour listing provides a detailed breakdown of inclusions and exclusions.
How far in advance should I book my tour?
We recommend booking at least 3-6 months in advance for popular tours, especially during peak season (April to September). Some exclusive rail journeys like The Ghan and Indian Pacific can book out 6-12 months ahead. Early booking also gives you the best selection of cabin types and departure dates.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation policies vary depending on the tour type and operator. Generally, cancellations made 60+ days before departure receive a full refund minus a small admin fee. Cancellations 30-60 days forfeit 50% of the tour cost, and within 30 days forfeit the full amount. We strongly recommend travel insurance to protect your investment.
Are your tours suitable for people with mobility issues?
Many of our coach and rail tours are suitable for people with limited mobility, though some walking is usually required at destinations. Please discuss your specific needs with our team when booking. We can advise which tours are most suitable and arrange any necessary assistance. Unfortunately, some remote outback tours may not be suitable.
What should I pack for an outback tour?
Essential items include comfortable walking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), light layers for varying temperatures, a water bottle, camera, and any personal medications. We provide a detailed packing list with your booking confirmation specific to your tour and season of travel.
Do you offer travel insurance?
Yes, we are accredited agents for Toursafe and Covermore Travel Insurance. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, trip cancellation, and lost luggage. We can provide quotes and arrange coverage at the time of booking your tour.
Can you arrange flights to connect with tours?
Absolutely! We can arrange all domestic and international flights to seamlessly connect with your tour departure and return. Our team will ensure appropriate connection times and can also arrange pre or post-tour accommodation if needed.
Are meals catered for special dietary requirements?
Yes, most tour operators can accommodate special dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergies. Please advise us of any dietary needs at the time of booking so we can ensure appropriate arrangements are made with the tour operator.
