Hunter Valley, Port Stephens Or Newcastle

Start the day with a hearty breakfast on board before setting off on your choice of Off Train Experiences. You may choose to meander through the picturesque, historic vineyards of the Hunter Valley, Australia’s oldest wine region. Known for Semillon and Shiraz, here you’ll spend the day amongst the vines, visiting Tulloch and Brokenwood Wines. After your wine tastings, you’ll sit down for a platter-style lunch featuring local produce at Twine Restaurant. If you’d prefer to take to the skies, treat yourself to an optional upgrade with a Hunter Valley helicopter flight that soars over the rolling green hills, showcasing the best of the wine region and beyond. Other options include exploring Port Stephens by land or sea. On the land tour, you’ll drive along and into the largest mobile sand dunes in the Southern Hemisphere, the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes, in a 4WD vehicle. You’ll stop to admire your surrounds and drive to the top of a dune to take in the incredible views – you may even choose to sandboard down. On the water tour, you’ll be dazzled by the turquoise water as you soak up the stunning coastline from a relaxed boat cruise. You may be lucky enough to spot dolphins along the way. Whether by land or sea, after your Port Stephens adventure, you’ll enjoy a relaxed lunch at Nelson Bay Golf Club before returning to the train in the afternoon. Alternatively, explore Newcastle and discover the vibrant mix of old and new in the beautiful coastal city with a fun and insightful guided walking tour. After lunch at Scratchleys on the Wharf, spend an hour at your leisure embracing everything Newcastle has to offer, and late afternoon, return to the train along with the rest of the guests to enjoy a regionally inspired meal and relaxing time on board before retiring for the night. Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the tour price?
Our tour prices typically include accommodation, transportation, guided tours, and meals as specified in the itinerary. Flights, travel insurance, and personal expenses are usually not included unless specifically mentioned. Each tour listing provides a detailed breakdown of inclusions and exclusions.
How far in advance should I book my tour?
We recommend booking at least 3-6 months in advance for popular tours, especially during peak season (April to September). Some exclusive rail journeys like The Ghan and Indian Pacific can book out 6-12 months ahead. Early booking also gives you the best selection of cabin types and departure dates.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation policies vary depending on the tour type and operator. Generally, cancellations made 60+ days before departure receive a full refund minus a small admin fee. Cancellations 30-60 days forfeit 50% of the tour cost, and within 30 days forfeit the full amount. We strongly recommend travel insurance to protect your investment.
Are your tours suitable for people with mobility issues?
Many of our coach and rail tours are suitable for people with limited mobility, though some walking is usually required at destinations. Please discuss your specific needs with our team when booking. We can advise which tours are most suitable and arrange any necessary assistance. Unfortunately, some remote outback tours may not be suitable.
What should I pack for an outback tour?
Essential items include comfortable walking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), light layers for varying temperatures, a water bottle, camera, and any personal medications. We provide a detailed packing list with your booking confirmation specific to your tour and season of travel.
Do you offer travel insurance?
Yes, we are accredited agents for Toursafe and Covermore Travel Insurance. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, trip cancellation, and lost luggage. We can provide quotes and arrange coverage at the time of booking your tour.
Can you arrange flights to connect with tours?
Absolutely! We can arrange all domestic and international flights to seamlessly connect with your tour departure and return. Our team will ensure appropriate connection times and can also arrange pre or post-tour accommodation if needed.
Are meals catered for special dietary requirements?
Yes, most tour operators can accommodate special dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergies. Please advise us of any dietary needs at the time of booking so we can ensure appropriate arrangements are made with the tour operator.
